Several job advertisements, social media feed and all those “gurus” advocating for competency in speech use one common buzzword- COMMUNICATION!  But what do we really mean by this word that begs our attention almost every single day of our lives?  Most predictably, we refer to communication as being proficient in the English language.  But is that what it really is?  Does communication merely encompass the knowledge of one single language? A word used so widely, a skill so highly demanded must surely have a lot more to it.  4CFT EduSkills is on a mission to equip each individual to be world class communicators in the true sense of the word.  Communication is the ability to effectively deliver a message in a way that incites the desired action.  To put it simply, we wish to empower everyone to create maximum impact with their words, we equip everyone with the right EduSkills so that they can craft the most powerful message that motivates others to act.    Therefore, communication, irrespective of language, can be broken down into:

(A) Use of Power words: Words are powerful and the one who knows to wield its power to their advantage will always be an effective communicator.  Think of sales scripts or marketing posts on your Facebook and Instagram.  Do they have a call to action?  If they do, then think about the power words that were used to urge you into taking action.

(B) Use of tact: Power without control is dangerous, and sometimes counter-productive.  The same goes with words.  If your words are powerful, but you don’t have the tact to appeal to people’s sensibilities, you can’t motivate them enough.  This makes your message ineffective and it makes you very unlikeable- a terrible recipe for someone pursuing effective communication.  Being tactful is the use of diplomacy when dealing with individuals, knowing the right words to say at the right time.  Do you employ tact in your speech?

(C) Use of story-telling aimed at serving people: Communication can be made effective if you are capable of weaving your idea in the form of a story that revolves around people’s needs.  This gives coherence to your speech and hits the sweet spot with listeners who trust your message, and tap into your authority, credibility and vulnerability as a speaker.

Does your message have this trio combination of power words, tact and coherent story-telling aimed at serving the people who listen to you?  If it is, YOU CAN be an effective communicator in practically any language.  Simply because communication means to be understood, it is a channel to motivate and serve the needs of others while you meet your own.  4CFT Eduskills helps you do this by mastering the use of –power words, tact and strong story-telling techniques. #communication skills #effectivecommunication #communicationiskey
